rehab

Shane McGowan goes to Rehab........

That pair of retrobates Shane MacGowan and BP Fallon are checking into Rehab – to DJ!

Rehab is the newest party dreamed up by Death Disco co-founders BP Fallon and Alan McGee and - as well as their Death Discos – it takes place every week in London and New York, with Time Out New York commenting “BP Fallon is behind this scurrilous hoedown – and it seems as if he’s using one-time Death Disco DJs Kate Moss and Courtney Love as his inspiration, judging by the party’s name”.

McGee was in rehab at London’s Priory twelve years ago but he’s never been pious or precious about it. He says “I’ve always wanted to say ‘And now we’re off to Rehab!’ and now I can”. It was at The Priory where Alan read Fallon’s book U2 Faraway So Close and signed him to his photographic agency before they teamed up to throw their famous parties and DJ around the world.

And who better to DJ with BP at Rehab’s Irish opening in The Voodoo Lounge than our beloved Shane MacGowan?

Shane – who will play Brendan Behan in the movie adaptation of The Ginger Man with his pal Johnny Depp - has already triumphantly DJ'd at Death Disco in Dublin and Belfast seven times, getting the dancefloor jumping with everything from The Clash and Led Zeppelin to Joy Division and Hank Williams, via Sly And The Family Stone and The Siamsa Gaedheel Ceilidh Band. “I like DJing,” says Shane, “because I like, like Hendrix and Elvis and I can’t do that in my bands - but as a DJ I can play that music, know what I mean?”

About Voodoo

Voodoo Lounge is a late night, rock & roll bar.

The Voodoo Lounge is the sister pub to The Dice Bar and is located around the corner on Arran Quay. Like The Dice Bar, the Voodoo Lounge has Huey Morgan from the Fun Lovin' Criminals and when it opened had the dark décor and cool ambience of a New York club in Manhattan.

The Voodoo Lounge has been taken on many mantles before settling on its present role as a low-key late night boozer in Dublin. The Voodoo Lounge sports a very long bar, a dance area, a stage (It is becoming quite a popular live venue), comfortable seats and a very cool summer garden that substitutes as a smoking area during the summer.

There is a New York style pizzeria as you enter the bar sporting a tasty menu of pizza slices and interesting array of DJs and live bands throughout the week for all your music needs.Although it's open till late in the night, The Voodoo Lounge is little too far off the beaten track from Temple Bar to get too hectic but that to a degree is one of its virtues. The bar is very big it is never too full and it is always easy to get a drink from very friendly staff.
